the house always wins
yesterday i went to check out the casino in hull, quebec with a couple of people here.. it was a very nice casino.. nice looking, it wasnt smoke filled or anything - it had cool fountains - one of them was really really big! it musta shot up like 10 or 20 stories high.. i just went to chill with friends.. we had a good time.. one cool game that i was watching people play was this horse racing game.. basically its like horse racing, but they are toy horses.. haha.. it was amusing.. the min bet was 25 cents, so my roomie played a couple of times.. and the 2nd time he bet on the blue horse.. and it was losing until the home stretch where it made a push for the finish and won.. it was at 12-1 odds so he got 12 quarters.. hehe.. fun times.. another friend of mine was on the slots and lost quite a bit of money.. he just disappeared once we got there and when we found him again he was in the hole for a bit of money.. then we went to the classy bar there and drank and chatted for a while.. got home at like 3.. but back to the casino.. it shows how many people adore money and make it their idol in this world.. they are willing to give up the money they have and risk it to get more money.. and casinos make tons of money off of people like this.. i mean.. if you look at their decorations and fountains and whatnot, you can tell that they make a whole lot of money.. there's a common phrase that goes "the house always wins".. so for everytime you win, there are probably 5 times that you lose and the house wins.. and you lose more than money.. you lose your will, your happiness, etc... you soul dies just a bit, because the expectation did not meet with reality.. and you put yourself down for losing that money... and i think in general, people don't see that.. they play against the odds and think that if they just risk a little, they can get more.. its the trap of greediness.. a lot of people want more for themselves instead of spending the money that they lost on more meaningful things like sponsoring a child, or donating to charities, or hosting get togethers, or whatever.. they invest in getting more for themselves instead of investing in relationships.. and the inevitable happens: the house wins, as always.. imagine if all the money people spent on gambling was used to feed the needy and to help the poor.. or for health research.. what would the world look like if that happened.. what a world it would be.. :)
